Why I Love Trees

By Susan White, TreesUpstate Neighborhood Tree Captain

Trees make me happy! Standing in the shade of a tree in summer; walking through crunchy leaves in the fall; admiring the silhouettes of trees against a winter sky, and sharing in the joy of tiny new leaves in the spring. Trees are beautiful, and life-giving, and provide endless inspiration for my enjoyment of painting and sketching!

Why a Gower Estates Neighborhood Tree Campaign

Some of the things I love about our neighborhood (other than the neighbors!) are the wide streets and the beautiful shade trees. Over the course of 20 years living here, our neighborhood has lost significant tree canopy, due to storms, aging trees, and disease. For example, our own backyard has gone from full shade 20 years ago, to full sun today (thanks in part to dying trees, ice storms, and Hurricane Helene). I want to ensure there are beautiful trees for future generations to enjoy.

Why TreesUpstate?

As a 501c3 nonprofit that plants, protects, and promotes trees, TreesUpstate organizes volunteers and ensures that the right trees are planted correctly in the right places. Some of the trees will be planted from the City of Greenville's Tree Fund Mitigation Bank, but more dollars are needed if we are going make a difference in the overall canopy in Gower Estates.

As the trees cost $120 to plant, we are asking for suggested donations of this amount.
